Thakur Ramsingh Itihas Shodh Sansthan Announces National Seminar on Himachal's Social Structure

The two-day seminar on 08-09 November, 2025, will bring scholars together to discuss the interplay of 'Continuity and Change' in Himachali society.

 

The Thakur Ramsingh Itihas Shodh Sansthan (TRISS), located in Neri, Hamirpur, has formally announced it will host a National Seminar titled "Social Structure of Himachal Pradesh: Continuity and Change". This two-day academic conference is scheduled for 08-09 November, 2025, at the institute's campus.

The seminar aims to conduct an in-depth evaluation of the rich, complex social fabric of Himachal Pradesh. It will serve as a critical platform for scholars to analyze the dynamic interplay between the state's deep-rooted cultural traditions and the transformative forces of modernity, globalization, education, and migration. Key objectives include understanding the continuity of traditional systems (like family, marriage, and 'Gotra' systems) and evaluating the impact of modern ideologies on the Himachali way of life.

Collaborators and Participants

This significant event is being organized in collaboration with several key academic partners: the Department of History, Sardar Patel University, Mandi; the IGNOU Regional Centre, Shimla; and Nalanda College of Education, Jhaniari.

The institute invites participation from scholars, researchers, faculty, social workers, and students from diverse fields including History, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Folklore, and Environmental Studies.

Core Themes and Call for Papers

Discussions will be structured around a wide array of sub-themes, including:

  • Traditional family, marriage, and 'Gotra' systems
  • The role and influence of 'Dev Sanskriti' (deity culture)
  • Caste and traditional occupational structures
  • Folk traditions, customs, language, and songs
  • The changing status of women in family and community
  • The impact of globalization, migration, and media

The institute has issued a call for original research papers (3000-5000 words) in both English and Hindi. Abstracts are due by 20 October, 2025, with full papers due by 02 November, 2025. Selected high-quality papers will be published by the research institute.
